Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 10:29-31
I was awakened this morning by a merry group of birds singing a beautifully orchestrated song. Today they were much livelier and louder than usual yet it was a quite calming and joyful collaboration and celebration.
As I lay listening, I began to reflect on how the birds automatically awaken with a song in their hearts. How awesome is that? I also thought about how God provides for them, takes care of them, watches over them, protects them and they just sing along with seemingly no worries, or anxieties about tomorrow. The "bird choir" just harmoniously makes a joyful noise in the early breakings of the dawn without fail.
This recalled to my mind the classic hope filled song, “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” and the song began to spring from my heart as I thought about how little a sparrow is and I was utterly overwhelmed by the magnitude, providence, presence, and goodness of God who in His immeasurable greatness and all-seeing eye is on an itsy sparrow and how much more is He faithful to watch over His own.
Oh for grace to trust Him more .
Daily He leads us unaware. Protects us from dangers seen and unseen. Day after day He provides for us and has revealed Himself faithful in so many God ways yet there are times when our trust is unsettled. Unlike the sparrow who settles in their nest, rejoices, who neither plant nor harvest but our Heavenly Father takes care of them.
A sparrow is a teeny bird, typically about four to eight inches long. A very tiny bird in a massive sky with no end yet God’s eye watches over it and not one of them will fall to the ground apart from Him. Think about it, God tends to a sparrow, a speck in the sky. How much more will He watch over, provide for, care for, and do exceeding abundantly for those whom He sent His Son to die for?
For God so loved the world that He have His only begotten Son so that who believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
This alone should cause us to make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
Reflect on the words of Jesus: ‘Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat? Or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
Matthew 6:31-32
Notice, the first thing Jesus says is, do not worry. I know, sounds almost impossible, especially in these days and times; worry is commonplace. But if we prioritize God's kingdom and His righteousness, He will give us all we need. Come on now, think about it a teensy sparrow? How much more should we, made in His image, adopted, accepted, beloved, blood-bought, sons of daughters trust Him.
Oh for grace to trust Him more.
Nothing misses God's eye. No tear. No heartache. No need goes unnoticed. Ponder this for a moment; our gracious Father in heaven knows even the number of hairs on our heads. If we just reflect on that it should raise our trust meter and give us a song in our hearts!
The birds out sing us and we have so much more to sing about even on our worst day. We must lay our cares at God's altar and secure an active trust in Him to be true to His Word. His Word is unchanged. His faithfulness is unchanged. His goodness is unchanged. His power is unchanged! He remains the same; forever Faithful.
Think about the most pressing issue that you may be going through right now. Now, reflect on the unfailing, unchanging attributes of God.
He is the Great Physician-the Mighty Healer.
He is Good-Enduringly kind.
He is Trustworthy-He will come through for you!
He is Faithful- Unchangeably true!
He is Jehovah Shalom- The Lord is Peace!
He is Omnipotent-all powerful!
He is Omnipresent-He is everywhere!
He is Omniscient-all knowing! Hallelujah!
He IS LOVE!! LOVE never fails!
So go ahead, make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God. It is He who made us, and not we ourselves. We are the sheep of His pasture.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise! Be thankful unto Him and bless His name! For the Lord is good and His mercy is everlasting and His truth endures to all generations.
(Psalm 100)
Hallelujah!
Let's together with one voice sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name. Proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples! For great is the Lord and most worthy to be praised!
Psalm 96 1-4
Bless His Name! Oh God worthy of all praise!
As a sparrow settles and rests in its nest may our hearts and minds be at rest, settled, trusting and rejoicing in all the promises of God that have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding Yes and in Christ, Amen!
