Rest For Your Soul

Updated: Feb 20, 2021

Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

Everlasting Father, we are so grateful for the blessed privilege to come before Your throne of grace to find and cultivate rest for our souls. We praise You for Who You Are. There is none like You O God. Your love, goodness, faithfulness, and rest are beyond compare.

We humbly accept Your warm, gracious gentle invitation to come to You to learn Your ways and find refreshments for our souls. There is so much going on in our lives in addition to all that’s going on in the world and at times our hearts can become weighted by it all. We thank You for the blessing of being able to exchange our weariness and heavy burdens for Your easy yoke and blessed rest.

Lord, You have searched us and know us. You know when we sit down and when we rise up. You understand our thoughts from far away. You are well acquainted with all our ways. Lord, You know it all. Master, we want to learn from You.

Even You Lord, when You sojourned on the earth became weary by the journey and sat at the well. Today we sit at Your well to rest, be taught, and to drink from the water You so freely give. We're thankful that Your “class” is always open because there is always room at Your feet. What a blessed privilege to be taught by the lowly, beautiful Jesus.

You are a glorious personable and patient Teacher, so meek in heart. As You are lowly, we come to You in lowliness of heart. Humbled. Surrendered. Teachable. We draw near to You Jesus. Help us to be good students who attentively listen to You. Students who sit quietly at Your feet. Still. Eager. Expectant. Holding and hanging on to Your every Word, not being easily distracted, keeping our eyes on You, our Mighty Instructor, Author, Finisher, and Perfecter of our faith.

You instruct us in Your Word to cast our cares on You for You care for us. Lord, we cast all our cares on You by faith. Help us to be fully convinced of Your faithfulness to sustain, provide and fight for us. Forgive us Lord when we worry and doubt Your care, concern, faithfulness, and nearness to us. You will never permit the righteous to be moved. But sometimes Lord, we move/lean/rely on our own understanding. Forgive us, Lord.

Help us to trust, stay rooted/planted in You, and not be moved by what we see, or how we feel. Give us sure footing in You so that we're not moved by the negative report. The doctor’s report. Bank statement report. Prodigal report. Political report. World news report. Our own negative self-talk and worry report. Today we choose to believe Your report!

Your Word is Your report. The final authority! You O Lord breathed, birthed, and inspired every infallible Word. Lord give us a true revelation of this! Teach us Your way O Lord that we may walk in truth and holdfast to Your great and precious promises so that we may enter Your blessed rest and trust You for it all.

Great God, in those times when we feel abandoned and forgotten help us to take You at Your Word. Your Word is;

Forever settled.

Holy.

Spirit.

Life.

Lamp.

Light.

Fact.

Unfailing.

Profitable.

Truth.

Alive.

Active.

Sharp.

Infallible.

Instruction.

Complete.

Rest.

Rest in knowing that You are always working though we don’t always see it.

Rest in knowing that when we are weak You are strong in us though we don’t feel it.

Rest in knowing that You never leave or forsake us yet we feel alone.

Rest in knowing that every Word of Yours proves true though we see no evidence of the substance hoped for.

Rest in knowing that no good thing will You withhold from those who walk

uprightly.

Rest in knowing that those who trust in Your name will never be put to

shame.

Rest in knowing that You watch over Your Word to perform it.

Rest in knowing that Your works were finished from the foundation of the world!

Rest in Jesus. The True Vine. The Prince of Peace; Who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. It is in His matchless name we rest and pray. Amen.

There remaineth a rest for the people of God. - Hebrews 4:9
