Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Psalm 103:1
A few days ago I had the awesome opportunity to spend time with my grands. Though they don’t live in another state, they don’t live close by either. I see them often enough but not often enough. If you have grandchildren, you know what I mean. They bring so much joy, laughter, and sometimes some mind-blowing unexpected lessons. Simple, yet so profound; what flows from the pure hearts of babes. It's amazing that if we are attentive, what we can glean through them.
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength. Psalm 8:2a
A few days ago after reading my now three-year-old grandson Joshua a story he let out a tiny sneeze. I was a little skeptical at first as I asked him, “Joshua was that a real sneeze?” He nodded his little head as to say, “Yes.” I then went on to say, “God bless you, Joshua.” He responded, “Bless God.” I looked at him bewildered and said with emphasis this time, “God bless YOU, Joshua.” He looked at me and said with even MORE emphasis, “Bless GOD.”
My heart was so full of awe and gratitude for this timely reminder to bless God from such an unexpected little vessel. It had been a very tumultuous week. Our family had just experienced the loss of a dear loved one. There were other life happenings going on simultaneously and it was just a lot to deal with in addition to all the changes and chaos that is currently going on in the world. I was just exhausted in more ways than one. But God in His faithfulness, sent a gentle but powerful reminder through my grandson to, bless Him.
I want to encourage you today to bless God and all that is within you, bless His holy name. Yes, there is much to contend with in these times but God is still worthy. Still faithful. Still good. Still generous. Still beautiful. Still all-powerful. Still sovereign. Still God!
Praise, love, unbridled worship, affection, and thanksgiving to God no matter our circumstance glorify and honor God and bring us great blessing.
Though the world be shaken around us, bless God.
Hearts struck with grief; bless God.
Dealing with sickness; bless God.
Weary in battle; bless God.
Waves of fear; bless God.
Waiting on an answer; bless God.
Don't understand; bless God.
Fill in the blank _________________ and bless His holy name!
The Eternal One is forever worthy of praise from the fruit of our lips and worship from the depths of our hearts. When we remember His goodness. Call to mind His faithfulness. Meditate on His promises. Gaze at His holiness. Reflect on His boundless love that compelled Him to give His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, our souls should cry out, bless the Lord O, my soul and all that is within me bless His holy name!
When we praise God in the hard places God is exalted in the highest place in our hearts.
When we bless God, He in exchange gladdens our hearts with His peace, love, and light. His light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never put it out. (John 1:5)
Determine in your heart to honor God with blessing, praise, and thanksgiving in the midst of all that’s wrong, then all that’s right will be magnified and joy will spring forth from your heart with gladness! This is where your strength lies.
O magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt His name together! Psalm 43:3
I give God praise for sending two words, through my now three old Joshua-son (today is his birthday) “Bless God.” Two words, packed with power to unlock the unfathomable blessings of peace, joy, strength, comfort, and communion in the Holy Spirit.
Two words that evoke hope in the One who is called Wonderful! Counselor! Mighty God! Everlasting Father! Prince of Peace!
Two words, that open the wells of our hearts, and God’s love floods like a river overflowing its banks with His glory and kindness.
Two words, that shift our perspective from this passing world to the eternal blessings, grandeur glimpses, and glory of heaven!
Two words, that bend our hearts to the greatness of God’s loyal love and mercy. As far as from the east is to the west He has removed our sin from us! O bless His holy name!
Two words that remind us that God's throne is established in heaven, and His kingdom rules over ALL! O bless His holy name!
Two words that call attention to God's greatness and His clothing of honor and majesty! Who covers Himself with light as with a garment and stretches out the heavens like a curtain! Who makes the clouds His chariot! Who walks on the wings of the wind! I ask you, Who is like the Lord? So faithful and True.
Two words that gave me hope, strength, encouragement, pointed me back to Jesus the Hope of glory and gave me a deep impression of God's faithfulness at a time when I really needed it. From the mouth of my little Joshua-son while sitting on my lap, who "just so happened" to sneeze and reminded me to bless God. Never underestimate what God can do through the tender heart of a child.
For our hearts trust in Him, since we trust in His holy name. Psalm 33:21
